Volunteer/Activist Opportunities

Activist/Volunteers Needed:

North Group, Humboldt County Membership Chair: Interested Sierra Club member needed to welcome new and prospective members at quarterly orientations about local group and conservation issues. Present chair will assist as needed. Contact Becky 839-8709, linabec@mailstation.com.

Sonoma Group Environmental Forum Committee Member: Help plan the monthly meetings for the Sierra Club. Plan speakers and programs. Create newsletter write ups and meet exciting environmental advocates throughout our community. 3-6 hours per month, including 3 hours every third Wednesday of the month (except August and December). Contact Marsha Taylor, 546-9233.

Sonoma Group Water Committee Co-Chair or Vice-Chair: Be responsible for up to 50% of the following: agenda preparation, leading monthly meetings, minutes review (sometimes writing minutes also), and reporting, 1+ hour per month. Contact Veronica Jacobi: vjacobi@sonic.net or 575-5594.

Sonoma Group Water Committee Secretary: Take notes and prepare draft of monthly minutes; 1+ hour per month. Contact Veronica Jacobi: vjacobi@sonic.net or 575-5594.

Alternate Representative to Sonoma County Conservation Council (SCCC): Attend approximately one-third to one-half of monthly 2 hour meetings held on the last Monday of most months at the Environmental Center. Contact Veronica Jacobi: vjacobi@sonic.net or 575-5594.

Gravel Mining "Lead" or Researcher: Do you love the Russian River or are you interested inprotecting our water quality for people, wildlife and fish? Please volunteer to help the Water Committee and/or Conservation Committee with gravel mining issues in our county. We need your help! Training provided. 2-10 hours per month required. Sonoma County Reporters: Do you want to be involved with the Sierra Club but live too far out to attend meetings? Perhaps you live in Cloverdale, Healdsburg, Windsor or Jenner, Bodega Bay, Occidental, Petaluma, or Sonoma. The Conservation Committee wants to know about the issues in your community and to support your work. However, we need the information. We're looking for local "reporters" who will inform us monthly of the ongoing efforts to improve the environment and protect the integrity of our county. 1-2 hours a month written or email, and Sierra Club membership required.
