CalFed Update!

CalFed, the joint federal/state task force with the Solomon-esque task of settling California's decades-old "water wars" and restoring the San Francisco Bay/Delta estuary, (Yodeler, April 1998 ) has just added several new public hearings to its busy spring schedule. Bay Chapter activists who live or work near one of these sites, take note. We need as many citizens as possible to attend these hearings and convince CalFed to choose a smart water future for California.

All of the hearings start at 6:00 p.m. From 6-7 an informal question and answer period, from 7 on the formal public hearing, with opportunity for public comment.

Letter target changes! John Garamendi, Deputy Secretary of the Interior, recently announced his resignation from the Clinton Administration. Environmentalists are dismayed, as Garamendi had been sympathetic to many of our concerns. Since his replacement is unlikely to be announced any time soon, letters to Interior should be redirected to a higher target:

The Honorable Albert Gore
Executive Office of the Vice President
White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington DC 20500
