John Muir Essay and Poster Contest
Winners to be announced May 1, 1999
Students from around Napa County will participate in the
popular John Muir Essay and Poster Contest. Children in
grades K-6 are asked to paint or draw in any medium a poster
of any native bird of the Napa Valley. Middle and high
school students are asked to write a thoughtful 400-word
essay, "How Can Nature Be Preserved for Future Generations?"
First prize is $100 in cash, with seven first prizes to be
awarded.
This is the contest's ninth year, and organizers expect
it will be a success once again. "We have parents and
grandparents taking pictures of their child, shaking their
hand, and hugging them. It's so heartwarming to see. Our
future writers and artists will come from these children and
we want to encourage them along the way, to think and
create," said Tom Davis, the Napa Group Chair.
A Congratulation Ceremony will be held in celebration of
John Muir's birthday, Saturday May 1 at the Landmarks
building in downtown Napa, at 7 p.m. This will be an event
the students will remember for years. The winning artwork
and essays will be also posted on the Napa Group's web site
at .
