Coastal Cleanup for Napa and Sonoma Counties

JOIN US ON SEPTEMBER 15, AND HELP US SET A RECORD FOR PARTICIPATION! SEE YOU THERE.

Sierra Club members, family and friends are urged to come join the effort to clean up the waterways in Sonoma & Napa counties during this year's Coastal Cleanup Day 2001. This year's event is taking place on September 15th. The Cleanup is part of the California Coastal Commission's annual statewide beach cleanup, which has been expanded to include watershed areas throughout the region. Volunteers collect debris, and catalogue what is collected in an effort to target pollution at the source. If you have never participated in this event, it is a good opportunity to discover and enjoy our community's beaches and waterways.

Napa County Cleanup Information: Napa Cleanups have included areas in American Canyon, Napa Creek, JFK Park, Lincoln Bridge and Southern Crossing. This year, additional waterways up-valley will be included, allowing for greater participation by those communities. Please come join your neighbors for a few hours on Saturday morning, September 15, and see first hand the impacts we have on our local creeks and river. SEE HOW GOOD IT LOOKS ONCE WE'RE DONE.

To volunteer in Napa for the cleanup or to help with organizing the event, please contact:

Sonoma County Cleanup Information: Sierra Club Members are to meet at 9:00 AM on September 15th at the Bodega Dunes Campground, on Highway One, about one mile north of Bodega Bay The cleanup runs until about noon. Following the Cleanup, a free Bar-be-que will be held for all volunteers at Doran Beach Park. A sandcastle contest will be held along with judging for the most unique piece of debris collected. Prizes are furnished by many local businesses, and have included spa treatments, games for the children, and family meals at Sonoma County restaurants. Volunteers are also being sought for additional beach captains, as well as for in-land waterway coordinators. If you are organizing a large group of participants, please call in advance and we will assign a beach you can report to directly.
