What You Can Do To Help Protect Roadless Areas

Write to Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth, c/o Sierra Club, 408 C Street, NE Washington DC. You can use the sample letter below, or write your own (be sure to include your name and address):

Dear Chief Bosworth:

More than half of our national forest land has been damaged by logging, roadbuilding and other development. The last roadless areas in our national forests have some of the highest quality fish and wildlife habitat, backcountry recreation and clean water supplies in the country.

If fully implemented, the Roadless Area Conservation Rule could protect the last 58.5 million acres of wild roadless areas in our national forests from most logging and roadbuilding. More that 1 million Americans already participated in the rule-making by voicing support for protecting our last wild forests.

Please stand up for protecting wild forests by immediately and fully implementing the Roadless Area Conservation Rule as finalized in January 2001 and by opposing all efforts to weaken or undermine forest protection.

For current information on the status of the roadless rule, visit http://www.sieraclub.org/wildlands/wildforests.
