Help Needed - Get Involved Locally Vacaville: FRIENDS of LAGOON VALLEY Environmentalist and concerned citizens of Vacaville are organizing to Save Lagoon Valley from a huge development (1225 single-family homes, 100 attached town homes, school, fire station, golf course with clubhouse, one million sq. ft. of commercial office space, 50,000 sq. ft. of retail space and more). Friends of Lagoon Valley has circulated petitions for two referendums for the November ballot. One ballot measure will referend Vacaville's General Plan changes which allow for a huge development in Lagoon Valley. The second measure will referend the Specific Plan for Lagoon Valley's proposed development. These will be hotly contested issues this fall. Please get involved to protect this greenbelt between Vacaville and Fairfield. INFO or contributions: Save Lagoon Valley, 735 Brookside Dr., Vacaville 95688, 707 447-7356 or mconning@pacbell.net. ******** BENICIA: Protect our Waterfront Because of an editing shafu, the waterfront iniative will not appear on the November Ballot. POW did collect 3000 signatures. They will be out again to qualify for the March 2005 ballot. Volunteers are needed to help keep First Street Green. Please contact Nancy Lund 748-0155, Susan Street 747-1930 or email bstreet@pacbell.net. ******** Vallejo Solano Group is joining the Vallejo Waterfront Coalition to protect the open green space from developers (again). Jane Bogner has been our representative off and on since 1988. Guess what, she needs a break. (As do all our faithful ExCom members.) Obligations for a board member are attending the monthly board meeting on the 4th Monday of each month at 6:30 in Vallejo and arranging volunteers for the 8 Saturday workdays at the recycling site. This list of regular volunteers is readily available. VALCORE has been our source of fundraising for money needed to run our local group. It's an exciting board and a great way to 'act locally' on a global issue. ******** E-mail Solano Group at solanobreeze@yahoo.com. |
