Clair Tappaan Lodge is a unique resource in the Donner Pass area of the Tahoe Sierra. Red ink may force the Club to sell this piece of its heritage unless supporters can increase occupancy and raise $100,000 by September 30, 2005. To date $60,000 has been raised.

Since it was built by Sierra Club volunteers in the 1930s, Clair Tappaan Lodge has provided an affordable retreat for members and visitors alike. The hostel-like lodge is a perfect base for skiers, where one can cross-country ski right out the back door, and downhill ski nearby. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful summer and fall weather - and activities ranging from fly-fishing to tai chi - while helping the cause to save Clair Tappaan Lodge. Staying at the rustic CTL and experiencing its living room, dining room, and library provides an opportunity to experience the congenial and cooperative atmosphere of the volunteers who built the lodge, as well as opportunities to meet people - from Northern California and around the world - who share an enthusiasm for enjoying and protecting the outdoors.

Many who have visited the Lodge retain lifetime memories of a significant event in their lives - learning to cross-country ski, meeting their spouse-to-be, watching their children make new friends and continuing a tradition of nature based activities. Clair Tappaan Lodge has remained a core symbol of the values and objectives that the Sierra Club represents.

Redwood Chapter has dedicated a matching grant for funds donated by Redwood Chapter members to Clair Tappaan Lodge. We are asking for your generous support.

• You may donate by credit card at www.save ctl.org. Contributions made online are not tax-deductible.
• You may contribute by check. Your non-tax deductible c(4) donation check should be made payable to Sierra Club. Contributions, gifts and dues to the Sierra Club are not tax-deductible; they support our effective, citizen-based advocacy and lobbying efforts. Contributions made in response to this campaign will be used for direct support of Clair Tappaan Lodge.
• If you prefer to make a tax deductible contribution, make your check payable to The Sierra Club Foundation, making no reference to CTL on your check. These funds are unrestricted, meaning they can be used by the Sierra Club for many c(3) approved activities, not just for CTL.
