August Environmental Forum

Climate Protection, Water, Open Space OH MY!
Improving the Sonoma County General Plan

Wednesday, August 15, 2007
7:00 to 9:00 PM
Environmental Center
55A Ridgway Avenue, Santa Rosa
(off Cleveland Ave., North of College Ave., South of Coddingtown)

A special "Pre-Environmental Forum" from 5pm-6:45pm on Car-Sharing precedes this event.

Presenters:

  • Stephen Fuller-Rowell, Cofounder and Chair Sonoma County Water Coalition
  • Daisy Pistey-Lyhne, Greenbelt Alliance
  • Rue Furch, County Planning Commissioner

Come find out why YOU are needed for Sonoma County's General Plan 2020 input.

Daisy Pistey-Lyhne will discuss how citizen involvement is needed to protect the areas around our cities' Urban Growth Boundaries from further sprawl development. She will also describe the coalition of environmental groups that has been working together to address the General Plan, and how you can get involved in the process!

Stephen Fuller-Rowell will explain why the new Water Resource Element of the General Plan update needs to do more to address the deepening water crisis in Sonoma County. He will address specific issues and suggest how you can focus your participation in upcoming Board of Supervisors' hearings.

Rue Furch will summarize the General Plan update process, noting key changes that have been made by the Planning Commission. She will then focus on critical areas where public involvement is still needed to sway the Board of Supervisors toward a more sustainable plan for Sonoma County.
