Solano EXCOM would like to thank Sabina Yeats and Dan Tilley for leading the October events. Their talent and knowledge was enjoyed and appreciated by all. EXCOM is looking for people to coordinate individual events/hikes/potlucks in each of the Solano County cities. If you are interested please contact Jane Bogner.

Many thanks Sarah Currerer and Beverly McNeilly who supervised our 2nd Chance Week Garage Sale on October 21. We dedicated our new storage shed at VALCORE on October 21. This shed was built with 20% used/salvaged/recycled material by volunteers. Thanks to the Solano Group members who helped build it or donate materials for it: Construction/painting crew: Howard Hoffman, Brian and Matt Hoffman, Jane Bogner, Lamar Marutani, Nancy McCoy, Kenn Browne, and Lori Dervin. Materials donated by Doris Klein, John Kolarik, and Jane Bogner. We still need work done on the inside of the shed. Does anyone have any leftover R11 insulation? We need to put up insulation and nail OSB on the walls. We can work anytime, weekdays or weekend. Call me at 644-9183.

Last VALCORE workday in 2000 is December 16. We work from 9 am to Noon. $50 is offered to volunteer supervisors for their favorite classroom.

VALCORE Community Recycling is our grass roots recycling center. It is run solely by 8 non-profit member groups who share in the sale of the materials. When you bring your newspapers, cardboard, cereal boxes, glass, aluminum, pet plastic, office paper and magazines to VALCORE, you benefit the member groups and keep the money in Solano County instead of going to the big guys. You can donate all your CRV containers directly to Sierra Club in the Buy-Back area to raise more money for the club. Please consider bringing your recyclables down at least once a year. For a flyer with directions and more details, call 707 644-9183 or e-mail jabogner@juno.com

AUDUBON CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT On Monday December 18, volunteers shake the bushes to get an accurate count of the birds in Solano County. We count from sunup to sundown on hills, mountains, valleys, creeks, lakes, and even parking lots. We go out no matter what the weather is. If you want to test your birding skills, learn from master birders, just count and keep the log of birds sighted, help prepare the potluck afterwards, please contact Robin Leong at leong@community.net or 643-1287.

p.s. This is a great chance to explore areas of Solano County that are normally off limits.

SAN PABLO BAY FLYWAY FESTIVAL on Mare Island in Vallejo is January 19-21, 2001. We will mail a flyer to all Solano Group members. If others want a flyer, please call Myrna Hayes at 707 557-9816 or myrnahay@pacbell.net Artist are invited to show art work depicting the North Bay. For an entry please call 707 644-9183 or E-mail flywayart@juno.com. And as always, help is needed to clean building 505, set up, take down, lead hikes, and a myriad of other things. Call Myrna.
