Sonoma Group Report Anne Hudgins | |
|
In September Sonoma Group hosted a "New Member" event arranged by Conservation Committee Chair, Marsha Taylor. We welcomed new and potential members and introduced them to our various committees and current issues. This annual event always brings us new energy and new volunteers to serve on our committees. In October we gathered together for a brainstorming session, facilitated by Becky Frank, to explore ways to raise money to keep the Environmental Center open. Our lease is up next year and we may have to move, but in the meantime we need to tap into our dwindling resources to pay our share of the rent. It was a productive session which filled several pages of the flip chart. Our first event will be a party at the Omelette Express in Railroad Square on December 7th. Following public hearings in September, the Santa |
Rosa Plain Conservation Team is finalizing the strategy to protect this habitat which is home to several endangered and threatened species including the California Tiger Salamander. Meanwhile the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (F&WS) is considering public feedback on the proposed designation of 74,000 acres of critical habitat. The F&WS economic analysis concludes that habitat presesrvation is within the economic means of the County. Final designation is expected by December 1st. The County, the cities of Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Windsor and Cotati, are close to signing Implementation Agreements to adopt the Strategy and implement it within a set period of time. It is important for Sierra Club members to contact your County Supervisor and City Councils to urge them to adopt the strategy as formed by the Conservation Team, without creating loopholes and finding ways to avoid oversight. |
