REDWOOD NEEDLES Presented by the Sierra Club Redwood Chapter Newsletter, The REDWOOD NEEDLES Return to Article Menu 4th Annual Northern San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival The 4th Annual Northern San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge takes place January 21-23, 2000. The Family Wildlife Exploration and Birding Day, Saturday, January 22, 9am-3pm on Mare Island in Vallejo offers more than 50 natural resource related informational exhibits and a fine art exhibition indoors, and short wetland, birding and historic tours on Mare Island. The three-day free festival celebrates the return of over 1 million shorebirds and hundreds of thousands of waterfowl which migrate through or winter in the San Francisco Bay Area each year. Guided birding outings led by experienced naturalists and members of local Audubon Society chapters, canoe trips and hikes throughout the four county North Bay Region promise varied opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. A wine and cheese reception featuring the festival's fine art exhibition entitled Bay Area Wetlands to Ridgetops will be held Friday evening January 21.
