Majestic National Forests and Wild Roadless Areas of the
Sierra Nevada
Slide Show Presentation
Wednesday, January 19th, 2000
7:00 - 9:00 P.M.
Environmental Center
632 5th Street, Santa Rosa
Join us as Warren Alford, Forest Conservation Organizer
for the Sierra Club, presents a slide show on the ancient
forests, rivers and wild roadless lands of the Sierra
Nevada. He will introduce us to the wild areas affected by
President Clinton's recent announcement of a new national
forest roadless area policy-including nearly four million
acres in California alone.
Warren will discuss current plans being developed by the
Forest Service that will change the destructive policies
unraveling the web of life in the Sierra. (Please see Wild
Forest Protection article in this issue for more
information.) In addition, Warren will speak about the
opposition that has developed towards these plans, the
political climate in Washington D.C. and the rural
communities that are affected by forest policies. He will
discuss the strategy for generating public participation
needed to take advantage of the current direction that the
Forest Service seems to be going in, and actions individuals
can take to help protect our forests.
Please join us for this inspiring and informational
presentation.
Sponsored by the Sonoma Group of the Sierra Club.
Open to the general public.
