Sierra Club's Sonoma Group executive committee voted
unanimously and enthusiastically to endorse Club member
Noreen Evans' candidacy for 3rd District Sonoma County
Supervisor. As a Santa Rosa City Council member, Noreen has
shown her commitment to city centered growth as well as the
protection and conservation of natural resources and
habitat. In her responses to our questions she expressed
support for a river protection district and watershed
management plan, reduction of water diversions from the Eel
River in order to accommodate growth here and in Marin,
alternatives to the automobile to deal with our
transportation problems, serious water conservation
policies, research and education on reduction of pesticides.
She noted her support for the Hillside Vineyard Ordinance as
a first step in erosion control but also registered her
concern about wildlife habitat and protection of oak and
coniferous forests.
Noreen Evans' election to the Board of Supervisor's will
have a significant positive impact on the future of our
County in terms of how and where we will grow as well as
what and how much of nature we will preserve and protect.
Please support Noreen Evans' campaign in any way you can.
Message from Noreen Evans
Dear Fellow Sierra Club Members:
I want to thank you for endorsing my campaign for Sonoma
County Supervisor, 3d District. Your support means a great
deal to me. I am running for Supervisor because I believe we
deserve a representative who is open to public participation
and is responsive to public concerns. We need a
representative who will uphold the highest standards of
integrity and who is committed to serving us.
Our current population is already outstripping the
natural resources available to sustain it, yet we are
projected to grow by about another 25% in the next 20 years.
This means that Sonoma County will be adding the equivalent
of another city the size and population of Santa Rosa.
Numerous decisions will be made in the coming years
determining whether we can and will accommodate this much
growth, including whether to take more water from the Eel
River, continued gravel-mining in the Russian River and
expansion of our sewer capacity.
As you may already know, I am running against a
three-term incumbent whose campaign is funded by large
developers and gravel-mining interests. This campaign will
not be an easy one, but I believe the struggle ahead is well
worth the effort. Nothing less than the future of Sonoma
County is at stake.
My campaign will rely upon volunteers from throughout
Sonoma County. We will be walking precincts and telephoning
all of the voters in the 3rd District. If you can help,
please call me at 538-0939 or e-mail me at
fudemevans@metro.net. We will train you if you've never
walked a precinct or worked on a telephone bank before. Its
easy and its fun and the results will be worth it. I look
forward to working and winning together!
Sincerely,
Noreen Evans
