The Mountain that Refreshes By Bill Arenander, Jan. 1999 | |
|
Passing through Homestead Meadow - reflecting times passed! Crossing Santa Rosa Creek - stepping from stone to stone - Careful don't slip! Surrounded by the dwarfed forest of Sargents Cypress - stunned by the harsh environment! Serpentine rock glistens in the sunlight! Perched atop Gunsight Rock, like an eagle surveying the territory! Above all the commotion and clamor of our daily lives, Jagged rocks below, Looking out over a sea of mountain ranges rippling through the vast fog. Gusts of pure fresh air invigorate, Turkey vultures circle below, It's a hearty journey so few take! Three hours of strain, struggle and exertion. Vistas of awe! Pure joy! Blood pumping - chugging up cardiac hill to the summit - Made it! Was the journey worth it? You bet! Legs quiver, body aches, muscles tight - soul refreshed! A hot bath and I will sleep sound tonight! Sonoma County's gem, Hood Mountain Park, The mountain that refreshes! |
