Spring Lake Nature Guides Seek Local Volunteers | |
|
Join our team of volunteer Nature Guides as you guide school children on nature walks at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa. Find out which animals live in the meadows, the lake, and the forest. Discover our winter visitors, the cormorants, as they dry their wings high in the trees. Identify a plant that becomes soap. Have fun learning the multi-sensory outdoor teaching approach of famed Bay Area naturalist Elizabeth Terwilliger. Spring training begins Saturday, February 19, 2005 and ends Saturday, April 23. Guest speakers will share expertise on plants and animals in their different habitats, and early Native Americans' relationship to the land. The WildCare program in Santa Rosa is in its 15th year providing unforgettable outdoor learning experiences for primary grade children from Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties. Teachers in our community return year after year with their kindergarten through 5th grade classes. |
New Terwilliger Nature Guides will begin leading small groups of children in the spring. We ask you to commit to volunteer six hours a month during the school year as a Terwilliger Nature Guide. Training Dates: Every other Saturday, starting February 19, then March 5, 19, April 2 and ending April 23. Training sessions take place from 9 am to 2 pm. There is a small fee for training materials. Where: Training for the Spring Lake Nature Guides will take place in Rohnert Park at the Animal Care Center, 6470 Redwood Drive, in the Community Room. Field trip observations at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa will take place on Wednesdays during the training period.
