Sonoma Coastal Cleanup

The Sonoma Coastal Cleanup is looking for coordinating volunteers. The cleanup, part of the California Coastal Cleanup, takes place every September. Cleanup 2000 will be staged on the 16th of September on beaches and inland waterways throughout the county.

For years, all the work of the cleanup coordination was handled by Carol Vellutini. Last year, Christie Brown took over the responsibilities along with the help of co-coordinators Nicole Plencner, Diane Chase and Peter deKramer. The major tasks required to pull off the cleanup were divided among the volunteers: voluntee/captain coordinating and recruitment, poster and brochure distribution, press relations, contest staging and gift procurement, barbecue management. We'd like to recruit a few more volunteers to help with these tasks--anything from a couple of hours to being a co-coordinator.

If you would like to do something to help the county, please volunteer as a coordinator. You may call Christie at (707) 545-9119 or Peter at (707) 765-0888.

Those interested in acting as beach captains during the event are also encouraged to call. We are planning a potluck soon to explain the various tasks and plan for the event, so we hope to hear from all those who can help!
