Report by Jane Bogner, Solano Group
Many thanks to our April 22 crew of Nancy McCoy, Brian and Matt Hoffman. We also had an incredible book crew on April who help move Friends of theLibrary discarded books from a 20 yard dumpster. These books were stacked and will later have their covers removed, binding cut off and paper recycled. Thanks to John Kolarik, Sam McGee, Monte Simmons, Lori Dervin, Al Molnar and Jane Bogner.
EARTH DAY THANKS. Many people helped at several different Earth Day events in Solano County. Thanks to Lori Dervin, Ray Anderson, John Kolarik, Sam McGee, Marion Panzer, Brita Bautin, Myrna Hayes, and Marie Okun. A special thanks goes to John and Laurel Salerno-White for getting their GM EV1 electric car to the Vallejo event. John answered some great questions (can you drive it in the rain?) and was our main attraction. Thanks to Ray Anderson and Greg Ratliff for planting 3 (of 40) trees at the Blue Rock Springs Earth Day Event.
VALCORE workdays in 2000 - June 3, July 22, September 9 /FM October 21, December 16. We work from 9 am to Noon. $50 is offered to volunteer supervisors for their favorite classroom. (FM-Vallejo Farmers Market)
VALCORE Community Recycling is our grass roots recycling center. It is run solely by 8 non-profit member groups who share in the sale of the materials. When you bring your newspapers, cardboard, cereal boxes, glass, aluminum, pet plastic, office paper and magazines to VALCORE, you benefit the member groups and keep the money in Solano County instead of going to the big guys. You can donate all your CRV containers directly to Sierra Club in the Buy-Back area to raise more money for the club.
Current member groups include your Sierra Club, Girl Scouts, Boy
Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Solano-Napa Area Agency on Aging,
Vallejo High Sports, VNIP, and two adult developmentally disabled
organizations: Solano Diversified Services and Crest Adult
School.
Please consider bringing your recyclables down at least once a year.

BEST DEAL OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM. The Solano Group has ordered the
world's greatest shopping bags and they are selling for only $3 each.
Jane found an stash of leftover bags at a southern California company
that was once ordered by the California Waste Management Board.
These PAKASAK bags are the size of those nasty plastic grocery store
bags and the handles fit over the arms of those racks at the checkout
stand. They hold safely over 40 # and Jane and her husband have put
them to the test. The great thing about them is that they fold into
their own little pouch which is about the size of your hand. They are
made from 100% unbleached, untreated 'green' cotton and are machine
washable. Order one for your purse, one for your day pack, one for
your suitcase and a couple more as the perfect gifts. They ship
easily as they weigh only 3 ounces.
Call Jane at 644-9183, E-mail at jabogner@juno.com or write to the Sierra Club, PO Box 7313, Vallejo, CA 94590. Make checks out to Sierra Club/Solano Group. (Postage is $.99 extra per bag)
