Vacaville FRIENDS of LAGOON VALLEY

Environmentalist and concerned citizens of Vacaville are organizing to Save Lagoon Valley from a huge development (1225 single-family homes, 100 attached town homes, school, fire station, golf course with clubhouse, one million sq. ft. of commercial office space, 50,000 sq. ft. of retail space and more). Please get involved to protect this greenbelt between Vacaville and Fairfield. INFO: Friends of Lagoon Valley, 735 Brookside Dr., Vacaville 95688, 707 447-7356 or mconning@pacbell.net.

What is happening to our waterfront in Benicia?

Plans are afoot for DEVELOPMENT on FIRST STREET GREEN and beyond. We want to see open space/park, rather than development. Therefore, we have begun the initiative process to allow the citizens of Benicia to decide, once and for all, whether the First Street green and the property all the way to the Harbormaster's office stays Open Space or not. Solano Group is supporting this initiative drive. SOS - Save our Shoreline needs your help! This organization needs financial help as well as volunteers to help collect signatures for the initiative. INFO: Ruth Pierce 746-5422, Nancy Lund 748-0155, Susan Street 747-1930 or bstreet@pacbell.net or solanobreeze@yahoo.com.

Solano County Regional Park

Are you interested in helping to lobby for a regional park similar to the East Bay Regional Parks? Please contact Friends of Solano Regional Park District c/o Brent Schoradt 707 427-2308 or bschoradt@greenbelt.org. Brent is also working with us on the STA (Solano Transportation Authority) plan. Help is needed county-wide.

Anti MEGA-Dairy Campaign

Solano and Yolano Groups have joined forces to stop large Confined Animal Facility (CAF) mega-dairies from being built and expanded in Solano and Yolo Counties. Sierra Club's Dixon members live in Solano County, assigned to Yolano Group/Mother Lode Chapter - go figure. The Dixon/Vacaville area is already impacted by a 6000-cow CAF dairy, permitted with no environmental review. Three of five Solano County Planning Commissioners lean in favor of a 2-year moratorium, but delayed recommending this to Supervisors (or not) until after June 17. INFO: www.motherlode.sierraclub.org/AlertSolanoCAFS.htm or Steven Day at maprap@sonic.net or 707-644-2085.
