Help Needed - Get Involved Locally

Solano Group has teamed up with several local movements to preserve and protect areas from development. Please get out and help these groups in your hometown.

  • Fairfield/ Suisun City
Potrero Hills Landfill is planning an expansion. They are located just past Lawler Ranch on Highway 12 which is also just south of Travis Air Force base and 2 miles from a 8500-acre Wildlife Preserve. We are watching it with Yoshida and Dwight. The EIR should be out soon. Contact Citizens Against the Dump Expansion to sign the petition limiting expansion. INFO www.aceconservator.com or antar5@sbcglobal.net or 644-9183.
  • Vacaville
Vacaville Friends of Lagoon Valley, Marian Conning, 447-7356.
  • Vallejo - Vallejo Waterfront Coalition
For more information, contact the Coalition at (707) 645-3186 or info@VallejoWaterfrontCoalition.org.

Earth Day in Solano County - April 23

The celebration at Vallejo's Downtown Farmers Market was successful and almost over before it started to rain. Thank you Crista Foerchgott, Doris Klein and Kitty Powell staffing the Sierra Club booth along with our Vallejo Waterfront Coalition friends: Debbie Surani, Katy Miessner, and all.

Volunteers at the E-waste and Tire recycling event at Vallejo Garbage saw 1300 vehicles come through. Thanks to Kenn Browne, Phil McCullough, Phyllis Manoogian, Jane Bogner, Benjamin Ortega, Al Molnar, Rebecca Thomason, Kathy Hoffman and Monte Simmons.

The Fairfield Earth Day booth was staffed by our "Stop the Dump" Friends including Dwight and Yoshiko Acey, Jean Cain, Gilbert Saavedra, III, and Brad Smith.

A big thank you to all who helped and attended these local events.

Wanted: VALCORE Board Replacement

Solano Group has been a member of VALCORE Recycling since 1985. Jane Bogner has been our representative off and on since 1988. Guess what, she needs a break.

Obligations for a board member include attending the monthly board meeting on the 4th Monday of each month at 6:30 in Vallejo and arranging volunteers for the 8 Saturday workdays at the recycling site. The list of regular volunteers is readily available. VALCORE has been our source of money needed to run our local group. It's an exciting board and a great way to 'act locally' on a global issue.
