From the Outings Chair

Carol Vellutini
Redwood Chapter Outings Chair

A big thank you to Dr. Dan Weinberg for offering Wilderness 1st aid to the Sonoma, Napa, and Lake Group. Many Lake Group leaders drove the long trip over the hill both days for the class. Taking the class were David Henry, Carol Vellutini, Carl Inglin, Bill Arenander, Paul Bozzo, Tim Bartice, Hans Vidkjer, Ed Jacobson, Huck Hensley, Randi Farkis, Linda Marie, Steve Devoto, Hans Dobusch, Pete McGee, Carla Thomas, John Hewett, and Marcus Lipton. We all learned and reviewed a tremendous amount of information.

This late spring and summer time period should be interesting since the rains were so late. Reports of great flower blooms and record water flows should make outings fun and challenging. Jim Gannon, winter

leader reported that each of the hut trips experienced powder and a storm event. They had 20" of snow overnight at Peter Grubb in December. Benson was almost buried in snow. I would imagine that all the huts were almost buried at some point and that doesn't happen very often. The beauty of our Sierra must be preserved and cherished. How lucky we are to be living so close to a magnificent recreation area.

We welcome new leaders. Call your outing chair to obtain information about becoming a leader. Your local park needs you help in getting trails back into shape. Please volunteer.
