Sonoma Group Report Anne Hudgins | |
|
We have moved! Sonoma Group and Sonoma County Conservation Council have moved from the downtown Santa Rosa location due to rising rents in the area. We are now located at 55A Ridgeway Ave., two blocks north of College Ave. west, off Cleveland Ave. It is cheaper rent and parking is free. Otherwise, it is business as usual. The Executive Committee has voted to support the Living Wage Coalition campaign based on the premise that people who are paid a living wage can live closer to their work which supports a cleaner environment. This will also promote cooperation and support with compatible groups - a "building bridges" effort. There are several big development projects looming in Sebastopol and Rohnert Park which are potentially threatening our wetlands and ground water recharge areas. Our water committee and Conservation Committee are monitoring these projects and attending planning commission and city council meetings. We are seeking volunteers to serve as "Development" leads or committees. Call 544-7651 if you can help. |
Our Political Committee has voted to endorse Deb Fudge for 4th District County Supervisor; Noreen Evans for 7th Assembly District; Jared Huffman for 6th Assembly District; Pat Wiggins for Senate; and is working on interviewing candidates for city councils. Sonoma County PRMD is working on a draft amendment to the Forest Protection ordinance. Sierra Club continues to lobby the Supervisors for stronger protection for our remaining forests, lest they become vineyards. We are happy to announce that Margaret Pennington has been elected to serve on the Implementation Committee for the California Tiger Salamander Strategy Team plan. We are planning our annual retreat in late June to reassess our priorities. |
