Blueprint for a Sustainable Bay Area

Friday, June 20th, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Community Preservation Center
1026 First Street in downtown Napa

Urban Ecology, a 21-year-old Bay Area organization dedicated to ecologically healthy cities, will present a slide show & discussion on the environmental challenges of supporting and improving the quality of life in the nine counties of the Bay Area. Based on the organization's new book, "Blueprint for a Sustainable Bay Area", the presentation will present a viable vision for the 21st Century.

The Blueprint suggests many alternatives to continuous development on the far outreaches of the city, which deplete human and natural resources. Instead, Urban Ecology promotes sustainable land use development patterns and details mechanisms to achieve them, such as "urban growth boundaries" and "transit-oriented development."

The presentation is the result of a five year, broad-based dialogue among city-planners, architects, government officials, and community leaders. It provides an inspiring vision of how our homes, neighborhoods, downtowns, industrial districts, greenspaces and waterways, transportation systems, work life, and natural resource consumption could look if properly planned.
