Candidate Statements for 2002 Election Petaluma City Council | |
|
Matt Maguire For eight years, I've delivered on my campaign commitments and, each year, worked harder to bring differing council factions together. Our animal shelter renovation, a new lesser-impact sewer plant design with a spectacular wetlands recreational park, and a new General Plan based on quantifiable sustainability criteria are just a few of the results. In the past several years, I've helped direct over $32 million into major road repair projects, including improvements at Washington/McDowell, our worst intersection. I've helped successfully lobby for millions in federal flood funds. Our Police Department has grown, Redevelopment District revenues increased, and we finally have reserves in the City Budget. The 20-year Urban Growth Boundary I advocated is curtailing sprawl. I stopped privatization of our sewer plant, and I co-authored Petaluma's campaign reform law. |
My goal is to complete the General Plan, sewer plant and wetlands projects, and adopt a sustainable vision for downtown through the Specific Plan, while addressing basic infrastructure needs and resource protection. If we pull together, Petaluma can become the model for appropriate, managed growth. Please contact me at: Maximum contribution is $200 per individual. |
