Sonoma Group's October Environmental Forum Our Local Farmers' Markets: Making Them Work for the Community Wednesday, October 17, 2007 7:00 to 9:00 PM Environmental Center 55A Ridgway Avenue, Santa Rosa (off Cleveland Ave., North of College Ave., South of Coddingtown) | |
|
Presenter:
Farmers' markets are a great way to bring local, fresh, seasonable produce to our community at a reasonable price. They are also a great way for all of us to stay in touch with those who grow the food we eat. The result, ideally, is that everyone wins--the farmers, community members, and the environment. Are our local farmers' markets fulfilling this promise? What is working and what challenges still need to be addressed? Are there ways to make the path from farm to consumer more financially efficient? And how have our shopping decisions influenced the development of our local farmers' markets and the farms that supply them? These and other questions will be explored by both local growers and Paula Downing, the manager of two farmers' markets. They will present information about what it takes to run a market and grow food for the local community--and they will take questions and comments from participants. |
