REDWOOD NEEDLES
Winter outings will be posted in the December issue of Needles. You will note that Bradley Hut will not be included. We lost the dream to keep Bradley. The hut was not grandfathered in when tbe Granite Chief wilderness boundaries were determined. The hut is 500' or so in the wilderness. Anti-environmental groups pressured the forest service to ask us to remove it, and Sierra Club headquarters is agreeing to comply. Work parties are being formed to take apart the hut the first three weekends in October. The parts will be saved and when a new site is agreed on it will be reassembled.
Doug Porter is leading a snow trip to Pole Creek in January giving Redwood Chapter a chance to voice their opinion as to a new location. I am personally extremely sad to lose the hut in its present location as it was a part of our past.
New leaders are needed for all groups. Contact your outing chair for info. Thank you North Group for your active outing program, I joined the north group summer trip to the Ruby Mountains in Nevada. lt was special because of the people. Thank you Susan. The Bay Area Ridge Trail is slowly being pieced together in Sonoma County. If you would like to support the efforts of building the 400 mile ridge trail with either your time or a donation contact me (546-6308).
The 1996 California Beach Clean-Up was a success thanks to the hundreds of volunteers from schools, businesses, churches, etc. We couldn't do it without you. Lake Sonoma, and the Petaluma River were cleaned. The Russian River will be cleaned on Oct. 5th.
