Parks and Trails Committee

Sonoma County Parks staff have held public meetings on the outdoor recreation plan in Cloverdale, Healdsburg/Windsor, Sebastopol/Russian River and Bodega Bay areas. In each meeting local people who were concerned about their natural areas had the opportunity to meet one another, and talk about the future possibilities for recreation. These ideas were drawn on a map and presented to the staff.

These meetings are valuable. For example, participants realized the importance of Kelly Road to future trail needs. This road runs 4.3 miles west from 101 to Lake Sonoma and 21.5 miles from Lake Sonoma west to Soda Springs Preserve and then on to Annapolis Road to the coast- Parks and Trails committee members were shocked to hear that the Army Corps of Engineers were selling KeIIy Road without the general public having say in the matter. We rallied to the cause and wrote letters, called people, vent out to see the road, and spoke to the Press Democrat. There will be a meeting at 5 p.m. October 1 at Lake Sonoma. We hope you will attend.

We also need your attendance at these recreation planing meetings: Oct. 14th, Santa Rosa Veterans building, 7 - 10 p.m.; Nov. 2, Cotati Veterans building, 9:30 - 12:30; Nov. 21st Sonoma Veterans building, 7 - 10 p.m.; and Dec. 11th, Petaluma Veterans building, 7 - 10 p.m. This will be your only opportunity to decide on a trail plan for our county.
