Napa Sierra Club Accomplishments

1. Held outings throughout the year, ski trips, and a family river hike.

2. Awarded the first Earl Thollander Environmental Award to Harold Kelly.

3. Joined with farmers to pass the Farmworker Housing Initiative.

4. Successfully negotiated with Soscol Springs vineyard developer for a trendsetting, innovative, protection of wildlife, waterways, grassy buffers and row ground cover, monitoring, and minimizing of herbicidal use.

5. Held a Wilderness Slide Show and urged our local Cashe Creek be included in Wilderness Bill.

6. Filed suit to protect tiny Fairy Shrimp from giant multinational corp., Beringer-Blass.

7. Help fund a Snorkel Survey for Steelhead to protect this endangered species, and a children's creek side rehabilitation project.

8. Called on Board of Supervisors to adopt streamside setbacks to protect our water.

9. Held the "Environmental Candidates Forum" with Friends of the River.

10. Supported Diane Dillon in successful bid for Board of Supervisors.

11. First group to join the Bicycle Coalition and spoke for Lincoln Ave. bike lanes.

12. Worked to develop a Green Certification program for farmers and wineries.

13. Held garage sale and Fall Barbecue.

14. Worked for a City of Napa Native Tree Ordinance.

15. Filed numerous appeals against water takings permits and Erosion Control Plans.

16. Protected St. Helena's Woodland zoning from a vineyard conversion.

17. Joined GGG in opposing the overly expansive Los Carneros Inn.

18. Reported the Napa State Hospital diesel spill which was later fined $40K by the EPA.

19. Won National SC award for our artistic Holiday Ornament series.

20. Supported placing Alston Park on ballot to preserve it from development.

21. Testified against "slippery slope" Napa Oaks subdivision.

22. Far Side of Eden was published, praising the successful SC erosion control suit.

23. Developed Chapter letter to CALPERS to alter its investment policy to exclude any woodlands / nature-lands to vineyard conversions.
