I believe that environmental issues are among the most important facing the human race. We are 100% dependent on the natural world for our very existence. Any human activity affects the environment. How much environmental degradation is acceptable for various activities? As values are weighed, it is important that the Sierra Club and other environmental groups be informed participants in decision-making. We must help people understand that caring for our environment is in our self interest.
Napa County will soon be updating its general plan, our vision of our future. Napa has done a good job of protecting its agricultural base. However, we have not done so well protecting our natural ecosystems, and providing for compatible recreational opportunities. Challenges include population growth requiring more housing and transportation, and sapping of our water resources.
My husband and I have been Napa County residents since 1987. We are employed as Nurse Practitioners. We have no business ties which might prove conflicts of interests to Sierra Club activities. I have been involved in local environmental causes as a member of the Board of Directors of Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy, and a participant in the Blue Ridge Berryessa Natural Area Alliance.
I enjoy hiking, camping, cross-country skiing, kayaking, and gardening, with an emphasis on California native plants.
I think of myself as a "team player" who seeks consensus rather than confrontation. I have past experience negotiating complex organizational structures, and know that patience and persistence are required to accomplish significant change.
