2004 Procedures for Nomination to the Napa Group Sierra Club Executive Committee Nominating Committee: Genji Schmeder (chair: genji@onemain.com, 707-255-5830), Elisabeth Frater, Bob Russell Nomination Candidates: Candidates for the Napa Group Executive Committee are elected by the Napa Group membership for terms of two calendar years. The next election is December 2004. Submit the application to be considered for nomination. Mission: The nominating com will search for candidates among the Napa group membership, will review applications for nomination, may interview in-person, shall review candidate statements, and shall nominate candidates. We are seeking six candidates for four positions. Petition Candidates. Anyone not nominated may be placed on the ballot by the signatures of 20 Napa group members on a petition proposing that person as candidate. Mail petitions to the nominating com. Election: The election will be conducted by the Redwood chapter election committee. Technical Requirements: -a- current Sierra Club membership in good standing -b- current enrollment in the Napa Group -c- submission of the application to start the process -d- submission of a candidate statement before the nomination deadline Candidate Statement: The statement will be published in Redwood Needles and on our website. Maximum length will probably be 250 words, to be decided by Redwood chapter. Required Qualities and Availability: We are seeking leaders who will be assets to the Sierra Club's program in Napa County, helpful partners to other Club volunteers, and trustworthy public representatives. Members should be available to serve for two years in general governance and to take on a few specific offices like chairing the events committee or serving as delegate to chapter excom. Excom members take on individual responsibilities, but are expected to consult with others involved with their projects and to seek excom prior approval of major decisions and public statements. A member should reserve at least 15 hours per month, including email and phone discussions. Confidentiality and Fairness: Applicant information shall be kept confidential and revealed only to Sierra Club officers with right and need to know. We will try to avoid giving any candidate an unfair advantage. We shall inform interested parties of our actions in time for response and alternatives. Non-discrimination and Appropriate Disclosure: We are not seeking information on your race, national origin, religious affiliation or lack of it, gender, age, sexual preferences, marital status or income. However, political affliliation is relevant information. Also, membership in organizations with environmental mission or close relationship to the Sierra Club's program (whether supporting or opposing) is also relevant. Applicants shall disclose potential conflicts of interest. Deadlines: The Redwood chapter will set deadlines and other parameters by September 10.
